Laser Cut Housings for Lighting Fixtures

Past Work in the Lighting Industry

To better illustrate our 3D laser cutting capabilities, we’ve highlighted a past lighting project below. This specific job was done for a Georgia-based lighting company, who specializes in high-performance lighting products for industry’s most challenging lighting applications.

The Challenge

This client approached us in need of sturdy housings for some of their lighting fixtures.

They knew we had experience working with lighting projects, and trusted that we could provide a faster turnaround than the competition.

The Solution

First, we created a prototype of the housing using 3D cutting techniques. In total, we made several different configurations of the same lighting fixture, as the customer made changes throughout development.

Once a final design was agreed upon, we got to work creating the actual housing using a six-axis laser cutting machine. We also employed a sophisticated cleaning process to ensure optimal product quality; laser cutting inevitably creates a lot of debris and splatter, which can stick to the product. Our proprietary cleaning process removes this debris without damaging the part at hand.

This housing was made from Aluminum, with overall dimensions of 10 inches in diameter x 10 inches in height. Tolerances of ±.010 were held throughout. These housings had a highly reflective inner surface, which Corry Laser had to maintain; our cleaning process ensured that no debris marred this interior area.

We also provided thorough testing and inspection services during the manufacturing process, as well as a final inspection after first article approval. The housing met all of the clients’ exact specifications.

The Result

First article submission for this project was completed in three weeks, and production took between one and two weeks. The 3D cut aluminum housings were shipped to the client in Georgia, and we continue to supply them with approximately 400 to 500 housings per year.

The client was very pleased with Corry Laser’s ability to maintain the shiny, reflective inner surface of these housings while still allowing for a very fast project turnaround.
